Recipe For A Succesful Cv

2 min read Recruiter Certified™

Here are the top 5 ingredients on how to create a successful CV:

1. Keep it real!

Busy Employers/Recruiters often take less than 15 seconds to decide on your CV. Make it as easy as possible for the reader – you are not the only CV they are looking at. Keep it punchy, to the point and relevant. The sole purpose of a CV is to get you through to the next stage. You can explain all in more detail within your Interview. Usually, a CV should be no more than two pages, occasionally and depending on the stage of your career, three pages is maximum.

2. Include a Summary

Ensure your CV contains a strong, personal and relevant executive summary. Keep it sharp and don’t use words simply to fill the paper. Explain why you are the best person for the job.

3. Relevance, relevance, relevance

A good CV stands out through its content and relevance. ATS, Employers, and Recruiters will scan your CV for keywords. Often, “keywords” and “skill sets” are subtly shown in the job adverts. Use the job advert to work out EXACTLY what skills you should point out to them and which keywords your CV must contain.

4. Show off your Achievements and Attributes

Self-belief, and introduce an Achievement and Attribute section. Show the the employer/recruiter 'this is me!' Employers/HR want to know what you have accomplished and the value you have brought to each role.

5. No flowers and kisses

Always use simple formatting, i.e. no text boxes, tables, column, etc. which can prevent ATS from reading the content. Always send your CV as a word document and only ever send your CV as PDF, if you have been specifically asked for it.
